The holiday season has hit and run. An unusual one this year, with little of the traditional celebrations.
Shortly before Thanksgiving, Matt applied for, and was offered and accepted a job in New England. There was a [very] quick turn-around time between the application, the offer and acceptance, and the beginning of the job itself.
So the week of Thanksgiving was spent with Danny & Matt driving from Texas to New Jersey to begin the process of moving and settling in.
I remained home and mostly walked the dogs. The weather was great, and it help distract me from the thought of my only child moving 2000 miles from home.
The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas was filled with the usual end-of-semester stuff and work and packing up Matt's stuff for move.
Just to make life extra fun. a week of it was spent in a hotel while our floors were being replaced due to a water leak. The remodeling began in August!
Rocket & Rusty spent a good deal of time in puppy prison during this time.
It was not fun for anyone.
Leaving December 17, we drove from San Antonio to Long Branch NJ. 2 1/2 days in the car, pulling a U-Haul. It was loooooooooooooong and tedious.
I relieved the boredom by taking photos from the car.
Not the most fun 3 days I have spent.
We spent 8 days in NJ. It was an interesting experience. I'm not sure what I expected. The weather was cold, but not unbearably so. Except on the water, where the wind was biting!
I am imagining the "shore" - as opposed to "coast" to be lovely in the summer and I am looking forward to visiting it again.
I found the people to be very friendly and helpful. Not at all as I had profiled them. Definite New Jersey accents, along with Yiddish and Italian ones were prevalent.
One day was spent in NYC. There is still more I want to see there, but it is probably not a place I will spent tons of time.
The trip back was broken up slightly by a trip to Mt. Airy NC (AKA Mayberry) and a visit to the Andy Griffith Museum.
And a nights stop at the cabins in Arkansas,
Late Christmas and New Year's in Garland
and we are back home to start a new year with a new normal.
